The Switch 8 Recharger from Goal Zero gives you the ability to charge your smartphone’s battery, and it can double as a flashlight, which is a very neat feature.

Goal Zero’s latest offering, the Switch 8, is a compact charger that you can use to power up a cell phone, smartphone, mp3 player and other portable devices. It also comes with other features. It can be used as a UV water purifier or flashlight.

The flip-out USB also has interchangeable caps, and Goal Zero is planning to offer various kinds of charging caps to extend the device’s capabilities. With it, you can charge different devices on the go.  This feature alone makes the Switch 8 one of the most versatile solar chargers around, and considering it’s portability, this is one clever device to have. The device itself needs 4 to 6 hours to fully charge from a USB and 5 to 10 hours from the sun.

The Switch 8 is just ¾ inch thick and 5 inches long, small enough to fit in your pocket, and it is no bigger than a mini flashlight. It only weighs 85 grams (2.9 ounces) so it won’t take up space or weight when you put it in your pocket, making it an ideal travel companion for those who constantly use their gadgets and phones, which is pretty much everyone.
